Granite floor care for your home

When a granite floor loses its even reflection, the cause may be surface residue, wear or damage in a particular area. E2E assesses existing residential granite floors and discusses cleaning, polishing or restoration suited to their condition. The starting point is the floor in your home, not a standard treatment based on its name.

Request a walkthrough to show us the marks or worn areas and discuss what you want to change.

The granite name is only a starting point

Stone sold as granite includes different geological materials. Its actual mineral composition can affect how it responds to cleaning and refinishing. Two floors described as granite can have different absorption and care needs.

During assessment, the stone's current finish and previous treatments matter alongside its identity. If you have information about the original flooring or past work, share it. You can still request care without knowing the exact variety.

Describe where the floor looks different: a traffic path, a patch that stays cloudy after cleaning or individual tiles with visible damage. Those details help focus the discussion on the work needed rather than a general request for more shine.

Work out why the reflection has changed

A polished floor makes changes in reflection easy to notice. That does not mean every dull area requires polishing. Cleaning and refinishing address different conditions, and the proposed scope should explain which concern each service is meant to address.

Cleaning for soil and residue

Cleaning removes soil and residue using care compatible with the actual stone and finish. If that is the source of the dullness, broader restoration may be unnecessary. Scratches and other surface damage can remain visible after the dirt is gone, so we assess those separately.

Polishing for a suitable reflective finish

Polishing develops a more reflective surface on suitable stone. Your floor's composition, condition and existing treatment affect the options. Discuss whether you want to retain its current sheen or change the appearance before agreeing to work.

If you prefer less reflection, say so at the walkthrough. We can discuss whether a lower-sheen finish is suitable for the stone and condition of your floor.

Restoration for assessed corrective work

Restoration describes the corrective work a floor needs, which may involve more than routine cleaning. The scope follows the condition found at the walkthrough. Visible chips, fissures or cracks need individual assessment rather than being treated as ordinary surface wear. Any proposed repair needs a clear scope and realistic appearance expectations.

Some granite floors may not need sealing

Absorption varies among stones sold as granite. Some may benefit from suitable penetrating sealing; others may not need it. Existing treatments and the floor's condition also affect that decision, so a fixed resealing schedule is not the starting point.

Where appropriate, sealing improves stain resistance. It does not make the floor stain-proof, polish a worn surface or repair damage. If sealing is your main concern, ask about it directly without assuming a full restoration is necessary.

Our stone-floor care overview helps you compare materials. If another room has marble, its different surface concerns are covered in marble floor care.

Review the scope and the completed floor

E2E starts with a walkthrough to understand your concerns and desired result. We agree the work before starting, including the areas involved and limitations relevant to the floor.

At completion, we walk through the work with you for review and signoff. Issues identified within the agreed scope are addressed before the job is considered complete.
